You have a garden. There’s space to entertain out there. Why bother taking things outside? There are so many reasons to party outdoors. Here are 5 of them.
The five most important reasons to party outdoors
- Being outdoors is really good for you – Breathing fresh air is great for our health. It boosts our immune system, clarifies our thinking, and helps us digest food better. Fresh air is good for our respiratory system, and can improve our mood. Whether you’re in the town and country, it’s hard to get enough vitamin D in the UK, even in summertime. Spending as much time as you can in your garden will help increase levels of this essential vitamin – which is, by the way, one of the very few dietary supplements recommended by scientists
- You can configure your outdoor space in all sorts of ways – something you might not be able to do as well indoors. Can you shift furniture out of the living room to make a great party space? Or will you end up short of space whatever you do indoors? Maybe your house just isn’t laid out for parties. Plenty aren’t. Rather than force everyone into a space that doesn’t really work, leaving some stranded in the kitchen and others stuck standing against the walls, set your guests free in a comfortable outdoor space where you can arrange the garden furniture and garden dining set any way you like without causing domestic chaos
- You can have a real fire! Can you light a fire indoors to add atmosphere and style to your event? Do you even have a working fireplace in the house? It isn’t always possible. Take the party outside to create real flames as a focal point for the event, a place for people to gather round and chat, drink and eat, laugh and share tall tales. Outdoor fires come in so many shapes, sizes and styles. Choose a firebowl for stunning flames, a firepit or a fire basket for equally dramatic fiery good looks. Pick a chiminea in metal or clay for small, safely-contained fires that heat the body of the chiminea like a massive radiator, a joy to relax around. You can also cook on most of them. Pick a huge outdoor oven for mass catering in your garden, a standard BBQ built with quality every step of the way, a food smoker, or a pizza oven…
- It’s more exciting. Why? It just is. Everyone loves sociable occasions outside as long as they’re comfortable and the weather plays nice. The event will be more memorable just because it was held alfresco. No wonder so many of us get hooked on outdoor entertainment. Everything feels more intense, more alive. You’re surrounded by greenery and fresh air, even in a town or city garden. If the weather decides to go unexpectedly pear shaped there’s a multitude of cool solutions for shelter, including smart gazebos, and enormous garden umbrellas and parasols.
- The big clean-up is easier – Say goodbye to your guests, leave all the mess outside in the garden, shut the door on it until the morning. Your home will be clean and nice, and you can clear the party debris up at your leisure – maybe when the hangover has died down a bit 😉
