Our chiminea collection includes gorgeous large and XL versions, some glazed, some patterned, and others plain. The clay chimineas we sell are all Mexican, which means they perform a lot better than most. They were developed over centuries in Mexico and they burn extremely efficiently thanks to the wide mouth, fat belly and chimney height.

Still used over there to this day, they're tough enough to have made their way across the Atlantic by container ship, well built and long-lasting. Take proper care of your clay chiminea and it'll last for years.

Our chiminea & accessories range also includes cool garden entertainment essentials like chiminea stands and covers, and chiminea accessory bundles stacked with everything you need to get cracking with your alfresco lifestyle.

FAQs on Chimineas and Accessories

A chiminea is a freestanding outdoor fireplace typically made from clay, cast iron, or steel. It features a bulbous body with a narrow chimney that directs smoke upwards, providing warmth and a cozy ambiance in outdoor spaces.

Common materials include:

  • Clay: Traditional look, great heat retention but fragile and prone to cracking if exposed to harsh weather.
  • Cast iron: Durable and retains heat well; requires rust protection and occasional maintenance.
  • Steel: Lightweight, modern design, heats quickly but cools down faster than cast iron.
Choosing depends on your style preference and how much maintenance you want to do.

Most chimineas burn wood logs or charcoal. Avoid using lighter fluids or accelerants. Some models can also use fire glass or bioethanol fuel, but always check manufacturer guidelines.

Several accessories can improve your chiminea experience:

  • Protective covers: Help shield your chiminea from rain and weather damage.
  • Fire grates: Improve airflow and combustion inside the fire chamber.
  • Log racks and holders: Convenient storage for firewood nearby.
  • Chiminea tools: For safely managing the fire and ashes.
  • Spark guards/screens: Prevent sparks and embers from escaping.

Place your chiminea:

  • On a stable, non-flammable surface like stone, brick, or concrete.
  • At least 2 meters (6 feet) away from any buildings, fences, or overhanging trees.
  • In an open, well-ventilated area to avoid smoke build-up.
  • Away from windy spots to keep the fire controlled.

Maintenance tips include:

  • Clean out ashes regularly once the chiminea is cool.
  • Use covers when not in use to protect against moisture and dirt.
  • For clay chimineas, avoid exposure to water and sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking.
  • For metal chimineas, check for rust and treat with appropriate paint or sealants.
  • Store away from winter weather or bring indoors if possible.

While primarily designed for heating and ambiance, some chimineas come with cooking accessories like grills or rotisseries. However, they are not generally intended for full-scale cooking, so use caution and check product specifications.

Chimineas get very hot and should be used with care:

  • Keep children and pets at a safe distance.
  • Use spark guards to prevent sparks from escaping.
  • Never leave the fire unattended.
  • Ensure the chiminea is completely cool before moving or cleaning.

Besides covers and spark guards, consider:

  • Chiminea stands or bases: Elevate your chiminea to improve airflow and protect surfaces.
  • Heat-resistant gloves and tools: For safe fire management.
  • Decorative screens or enclosures: Add style while improving safety.

Yes, but:

  • Protect clay chimineas from frost and rain during winter to avoid cracking.
  • Metal chimineas should be checked for rust regularly.
  • Using a cover and storing indoors in harsh weather extends lifespan.
