A cantilever parasol, also known as an offset umbrella, features a side-mounted pole and an overhanging canopy. This design allows for unobstructed space beneath the shade, making it ideal for dining areas, lounges, or patios where traditional center-post umbrellas might be cumbersome.

Consider the following factors:

• Size: Choose a parasol size that adequately covers your seating or dining area. Common sizes range from 2.5m to 3.5m in diameter.
• Material: Opt for a rust-resistant frame, such as powder-coated aluminium, and a canopy made from durable, UV-resistant fabric like acrylic or polyester.
• Mechanism: Look for features like a crank handle for easy opening and closing, a tilt function for adjustable shade, and 360° rotation for flexible positioning.
• Base: Ensure the parasol comes with a sturdy base or plan to purchase one separately. A base weighing 70–100kg is recommended for stability, especially in windy conditions.

Cantilever parasols are designed to withstand various weather conditions; however, it's important to:

• Wind: Avoid using the parasol in strong winds. Always secure the canopy and, if possible, remove the canopy during gusty conditions.
• Rain: While many canopies are water-resistant, prolonged exposure to rain can lead to mildew or fabric degradation. Consider using a protective cover when not in use.
• Winter Storage: It's advisable to store the parasol during winter months to prolong its lifespan. If storage isn't possible, ensure it's properly covered and secured.

Regular maintenance includes:

• Cleaning: Gently clean the canopy with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the fabric.
• Frame Care: Periodically check the frame for any loose bolts or signs of wear. Lubricate moving parts to ensure smooth operation.
• Storage: When not in use, especially during adverse weather, store the parasol in a dry, sheltered location.
