Looking for garden furniture tips for small entertainment spaces? Here are some bright ideas for making the most of it.
Our large-scale garden furniture is grand, totally gorgeous, but a bit too big for normal-sized town and suburban spaces and way off-scale for a city centre patio. Luckily there’s just as much choice for small gardens. It’s just a matter of buying wisely, planning every buy.
Easy garden furniture tips for small spaces
Measure the area first, before you do anything else. Once you know exactly what you have to play with, you’ll shop with confidence. It’s a nightmare having to return things because they don’t quite fit or look wrong because the scale’s too big.
How do you decide what kind of garden furniture to buy? It helps to think about the maximum number of people you’ll have there, most of the time.
When there’s almost always four of you and you usually eat together, you’ll need a garden dining table and seating. A separate lounge set and dining set might be too much so go for a comfortable four seater garden dining set, maybe with high backed chairs so you can relax in them as well as eat in comfort.
If there’s usually two of you, think bistro sets. Some of them fold, making the chairs and table easy to store. You could buy two or more matching sets or contrasting designs, keep one out and stash the others until you need them for guests.
Big gatherings demand different thinking. Your patio is miniscule, you frequently fill it with ten guests, and there’s no way everyone can sit down at once. Outdoor bar stools might be the answer, a brilliant way to seat lots of people at once in a small space. You might have room for four slim garden benches facing each other, each with its back to a wall or fence to make an intimate sociable space.
Outdoor cooking can be tricky in a little garden. A large BBQ won’t fit, and there’s no chance you can fit a separate fire and BBQ in. A chimenea solves the whole heat, light and cooking thing. They’re a great shape, tall and slim so perfect for small places, and give off little or no smoke, good for keeping the neighbours sweet.
They burn fuel efficiently, leaving barely any ash. The mood lighting they give out if beautiful; real flames always look amazing. A chimenea generates huge amounts of 360 degree heat. Cooking on one is quite an experience, with a host of brilliant barbecue accessories to help you create great food. Cook in a pot on top of the chimney, on a grill inside, and on a swing-out grill on some models. And they come in small and medium as well as large and XL. Sorted!
If you don’t cook outdoors but love to drink, relax, chat and eat in the garden you could go for a combination of table and fire pit, a great-looking item that doesn’t take up a lot of space, is portable, and can stand against a wall. Warmth, lighting, and a surface to stand your drinks and snacks.
