Glance out of the window. It’s peeing down. Grim… but the festive season is over, the days are slowly getting lighter, it’ll warm up in a couple of months and it won’t be long before spring is in the air. So which garden furniture will you choose for the coming season of outdoor fun and frolics? Here are some ideas.
Which garden furniture will work best in your space?
If you already own some outdoor furniture but it’s on its last legs, you’ll already know through experience how the space works best for outdoor entertainment. In that case your job is relatively easy. Just find replacements in roughly the same size and shape and it’ll fit like a glove.
If this is your first time buying furniture for the garden, it’s essential to do some measuring before you buy. Some product descriptions include the recommended size of the total area you need for it to fit properly, others just provide the sizes of the individual items.
When we say ‘properly’ we mean the furniture itself fits along with enough room for people to easily get in and out of the furniture and move around it safely. The last thing you want is a garden seating or dining area that’s so cramped you have to climb over other people to get to the chairs and table.
Don’t forget – if you’re also planning on buying a garden space heater, a chiminea, fire pit or BBQ, you need to measure the available space for that as well. You won’t want to be sitting or lounging so close to a source of heat that you singe your extremities, set your hair on fire, fall over the dog or trip over a child 😉
The same goes for other bits and bobs, all your garden accessories. Most of us don’t have whacking great gardens, just small spaces we need to fill wisely to create the most comfortable setting. It might sound fantastic to have a patio heater, chiminea, BBQ, lounge set, garden umbrella and dining set but if you can’t fit them all in, it’s time for some serious thinking.
What will suit your needs best? Can you create the light, heat and the cooking potential you want with just the one gadget, maybe a fire bowl or a chimenea instead of separate items for heat, light and cooking? Then there’s garden lighting, coffee tables, bistro sets, garden shade, pizza ovens and garden storage. Will they fit and if so, where and how?
In an ideal world you’ll either draw a simple to-scale diagram to check everything works, or use a free online 3D design tool to mock your setting up to scale. Then you can’t go wrong.
Next, what style are you after?
Next in our journey into which garden furniture to go for, the style. We’ve got a huge range of gorgeous garden furniture in on-trend colours, some traditional and others wholly contemporary – and that means there’s something for everyone. When there’s this much choice it’s easy to pick matching, toning or even clashing items to get the look you want.
Take grey. It remains a hot colour choice for 2024, having crashed its way onto the fashion magazine front pages through 2022 and ’23. Choose rattan-look items if you like, or go for a sleek metal framed set. We have bistro sets in grey, grey garden dining furniture, grey garden loungers and plant stands, patio heaters, solar lamps and more.
Whether you’re into pale greys or deep, dark shades, grey always looks good with other greys and complements every other imaginable colour really nicely.
Talking about colour, our colourful Rio garden furniture range is a case in point. It works perfectly with other items in the same collection, either the same colour or clashing/toning shades. They also go beautifully with our grey ranges. It’s a fun way to mix, match and create something uniquely yours. Think scarlet, orange, pale pink, black, blue… all super-stylish and cool in tough faux resin weave.
