The traditional Colima Mexican chiminea – red and dramatic – is a very popular buy. No surprise when it comes with such great hand-made and hand-painted good looks. The design has been perfected over centuries in Mexico, where they still use clay chimineas like this for outdoor heating and cooking.
This one comes complete with a tough stand and matching rain lid. The lovely plain red finish goes perfectly with terracotta plant pots and complements your greenery beautifully. The traditional design means it’s very easy to light and keep alight. She stands an impressive 110cm high and is 45cm wide, weighing in at around 25kg. Like all Mexican chimineas it has an unusually strong draw through the mouth, giving you a very clean, very hot flame and making it an unusually efficient patio heater.Â
There’s no assembly. It is great at preventing sparks from escaping, unlike an open fire. And all you need to do is add a quality BBQ grill for fab outdoor cuisine. A couple of things to remember: One, you should always season a clay chimenea before use – find out how in our blog. And two, because it’s hand made and hand finished, yours will be unique. Very cool!
