In the 9th Century AD, the Pope insisted every church in Europe must have a cockerel on its dome or steeple. But people have been using weathervanes like this lovely Espira Arrow Farmhouse Copper Weathervane to help predict the weather. A member of the Farmhouse range, it’s suitable for most homes and outbuildings. The arrow flight and spacer balls are made from hand-brazed polished copper. The cardinal points, NSEW, are polished brass and the rotation rod is powder-coated black steel. The copper will get less shiny and over the years, ending up with a desirable green-blue verdigris finish. If you’d prefer it shiny, delay the process with spray varnish. The polished brass will also give you a gorgeous patina as the high shine fades, and a coat of Hammerite will extend the life of the steel rotation rod. It comes with the perfect Eave Bracket projecting 125mm (5”) with a 10cm square mounting plate. This is a classic design, always popular.
