Weathervanes have long been used to show the direction of the wind and help predict the coming weather. The ideas is so ancient it was used on Viking ships. These days it’s all about the decor, and isn’t this a lovely one? Featuring a copper mallard duck in flight, this Espira Flying Duck Cottage Copper Weathervane is areal treat for every cottage, as well as ideal for other smaller buildings, including bungalows, garages and sheds. The decorative duck and globe spacer balls are made from polished copper, hand-brazed by clever people. The NSEW letters are polished brass with a rugged powder-coated black steel rotation rod. Both metals will gradually lose the bright shine to give you a lush patina. Eventually the copper will turn to verdigris, the classic green colour everyone loves. If you prefer, slow the process using several coats of clear spray varnish. You can use Hammerite to extend the life of the steel rotation rod. There’s an eave bracket supplied, exactly what you need to mount it on the roof.Â
